(Note: Please check this website out for yourself. It is an official 'educational' website. After clicking/reading through the site, any thoughts about our educational system being 'just like it was in the good old days' should be banished from your mind. This is serious stuff, dear reader. Notice that students are locked in during sessions.) The Institute features a thematic, project-based curriculum. For an overview of the projects please view the project matrix, below. Students will be tracking their own progress through the state's many standards using a Standards Tracking web page which they maintain. The curriculum is organized around projects, as detailed graphically below. The projects move from a focus on the individual while working in a large group to a focus on the large group working more as an individual. Hence, they begin with 'ME,' then move to 'US' and end with 'WE.' There are four projects during the freshman year, two that focus on commerce (ComMErce and YosemitME) and two that focus on government (GovernMEnt and My country 'tis of ME). Career exploration will be threaded throughout the year. In an interactive format, students will discover new ideas and develop skills and competencies that will help them succeed in their careers. Study areas in commerce will include marketing, finance and entrepreneurship. There are two projects during the sophomore year. One has a commerce management focus (BusinUS Simulation) and one a government focus (Model US). Study areas in commerce will include international business, management and information technology. Study areas in government will include After the sophomore year students choose a focus area, either commerce or government, for their junior and senior year. There is a single project that spans these years. In commerce (EntrepWEneur) students will be involved in creating an actual business as an entrepreneur. In government (WEgislation) students will be involved in writing legislation.
