Hall (Georgia) Commission hears about power lines

(Note from MC: HOPE [Homeowners Opposing Power-line Encroachment] is making progress in Hall. The Hall Commissioners took a courageous step to explore passing the HOPE endorsed zoning ordinance. I spoke with Hall County attorney Bill Blalock this afternoon. Blalock said "I am working to get as much as I can together, as quick as I can." This is a very positive step for local oversight in Georgia but still requires the assistance of a comprehensive state statute.)

Gainesville, Georgia - Continued concern over powerline encroachment brought several North Hall citizens to Thursday's Hall County Commission meeting.

County Attorney Bill Blalock said he is reviewing ordinances from other counties dealing, through zoning, with powerline placement and condemnation.

North Hall property owners like Earnest Higgins said the power company is running roughshod over landowners in its pursuit of a 262-foot right-of-way from Lula to Lumpkin County.

"The issue is about oversight," Higgins said.

"They do what they want regardless of environmental law, property rights, or anybody's concern."

Higgins said affected property holders cannot even get a copy of the map showing the power line route.
