GM, TNC & the Sierra Club

General Motors seems to have trouble being politically correct when it comes to environmental issues.

The Sierra Club announced the launch of a campaign attacking GM's Hummer H2. The centerpiece of the effort is a tongue-in-cheek website ( www.hummerdinger.com ) which parodies the "Hummer's dismal fuel economy and absurd size." At 10 miles per gallon, the H2 guzzles more gas than any other passenger vehicle on the road.

GM apparently didn't pay off the Sierra Club like they did The Nature Conservancy. The following is text from a GM advertisement:

"GM is a proud supporter of The Nature Conservancy, the world's leading private international conservation group. GM has donated over $18 million and 160 vehicles to support the Nature Conservancy's work in the U.S. and abroad.

Visit http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/environment/  for more information."

And tell GM what you think of their environmental policies.

Points to stress when writing, calling or faxing:

TNC is the richest green organization in the U.S. boasting $1.6 billion in assets and $300 million in annual income.

They have questionable accounting practices.

They are under investigation by the U.S. Congress, and the EPA.

They have many blind corporations through which they make illegal donations to the campaigns of congressmen.

They receive multiple millions of dollars from various U.S. agencies. A major funder is the Environmental Protection Agency. In other words, your taxpayer dollars are being used to 'grease the wheels' of a landgrabbing private entity working in collusion with the federal government.

They coerce older people into selling or giving their land to TNC. Then they sell it at a profit or develop the natural resources on the land and sell them at a profit.

They sell choice land to big donors at deflated prices.

They enjoy tax exempt status even as they are making millions of dollars profit every year.

I am boycotting GM products and urging my family and friends to do the same.
