| NWRA Advocacy Bootcamp!
(Note: This is to show the seriousness of those seeking to control all lands and waters -- they even call it 'bootcamp...') July 10, 2003 By C. Max Schenk Director of Friends and Constituent Outreach National Wildlife Refuge Association 54 East Main Street Gloucester, MA 01930 800-996-NWRA (6972) office Fax: 202-333-9077 Recently, the NWRA announced a plan for a series of regional conferences, instead of a single, national conference to be held in Washington D.C. Friends from across the country have said that, although regional conferences are an opportunity to focus learning on a local level, the ability to meet with their legislators in Washington is still an important opportunity for their groups. The NWRA has heard Friends' concerns and is planning a 2-day Advocacy Bootcamp, to be held in Washington D.C. in March of 2004! The Advocacy Bootcamp will be an opportunity for Friends members to attend training sessions in improving skills in advocacy and media relations, with an emphasis on Refuge System funding and land acquisition. After training, Friends will be able to apply their skills directly, as we make a trip to Capitol Hill to visit with elected officials. We hope that those of you, who want to enhance your commitment to support your local refuges and the need for greater support of our refuge system, will attend. Stay tuned for more information on dates, location and other event logistics. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, please contact me, Max Schenk, using the information below. We look forward to seeing you in March! |
