| 'Immigrants' not accurate
(Note: The fact that legal, honorable immigrants who did all the right things to earn their citizenship are being overrun by those that are of the opinion that they are owed something for being here illegally, is wrong. This gentleman says it well!)

To the Packet:
The September 5, 2006, Island Packet had a headline [which read:] "Immigrants: 'We're not going away.'" I'm always amazed at the Packet's approach. The headline should have been "Illegal Aliens: 'We're not going away.' " I suggest the Packet start using the term "illegal aliens," not just immigrants, which is insulting to those who are here legally. Most Americans were "legal immigrants," as my ancestors were. My wife is a legal immigrant from Germany (and endured all the agonizing aspects of the immigration procedure red tape) but now is a naturalized U.S. citizen. The Packet published a front-page article about an alien family here on the island, whose son is a star athlete, and they admitted to being here illegally. Does Immigration and Customs Enforcement not read the papers? Nobody seems to care that we have an illegal invasion of our borders. Allegedly, there are those who "just want to work," those who steal Social Security numbers or those who might be terrorists. Anybody seems to be able to get in. Unless we close our borders, we're going to be North Mexico. I'm fully in favor of Mexican immigrants who come here legally, but we must wake up to the invasion. Nobody in government -- Republican or Democrat -- seems to care, particularly our two senators from South Carolina, who voted for the so-called 'comprehensive immigration bill' -- read 'amnesty.' They seem to have illegal aliens as their constituents, not their own South Carolina residents.
