| Website Update and Article
Info, July 17th
Whew! Summer's heat, haze and humidity is upon us here in the Midwest, with variations in much of America. Yesterday saw places in northwest South Dakota and southwest North Dakota reach one hundred and twenty degrees (actual temperature), so today's expected 96 degrees here in west-central Ohio seems a bit cooler by comparison. The corn and soybeans love this heat, after last week's three-five inches of rain, and there are tassels everywhere! Thank God for air conditioning (or swamp coolers, depending on your location), the cool breezes the come off the oceans and lakes, the shade of trees, cool water, and all that helps make this time of year more bearable. Our friends and relatives, pets, livestock and wildlife, depend on us in these days to keep them safe and hydrated. While making a day trip to Mom and Dad's, their birds were impatient for the birdbath to be brushed out and refilled with cool water! May this update find you and yours safe and able to get cool when you need to. Prayers for all for good health, good crops and safe journeys during this vacation time of year.
Happy Birthday, loyal Wiggles Blue Heeler, eight years young on July 19th. A better friend and companion there could not be!

American
Discovery Trail (ADT) – The American Discovery Trail http://www.DiscoveryTrail.org
“Stretching across more than 6,800 miles and 15 states, the ADT is
the only coast-to-coast, non-motorized recreational trail. Linking
communities, cities, parks and wilderness, the ADT allows people
to hike, bike, or ride horses for an afternoon or a cross-country
adventure.” “Legislation: The American Discovery Trail Society is
attempting to have the American Discovery Trail added to the National
Trails System. This literally takes an "Act of Congress" and
has thus far been a ten-year effort. In the first step, Congress
passed a law directing the National Park Service to conduct a
feasibility and desirability study to determine if the ADT qualified
to become a part of the National Trails System. Completed in December
1995, this study recommended that the ADT be added to the National
Trails System as the first of a
new category of long-distance trails to be known as National Discovery
Trails.
Legislation to implement this recommendation, known as the National
Discovery Trails Act, was first introduced in 1996 in the 104th
Congress but did not pass. It was re-introduced in 1997 in the 105th
Congress, in 1999 in the 106th Congress, and in 2001 in the 107th
Congress. Each time, the bill passed the Senate unanimously but
stalled in committees in the House. The legislation was re-introduced
by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland in February 2005 as H.R. 690.” http://www.discoverytrail.org/news/issues.html
[IMPORTANT NOTE: This trail, unbeknownst to many, blithely passes
through privately owned lands – also known as trespassing – on its
way across America. Nevada rancher Wayne Hage discovered a young man
on horseback (both man and horse were dehydrated) trying to follow a
ADT map across central Nevada. Wayne provided hydration to both, but
it was the first he knew of this trail, which clearly maps its way
across many privately owned properties.]
