In Wisconsin, ATVs are becoming more popular than snowmobiles, and the Department of Natural Resources wants to capitalize on that fact. A DNR survey found 23% of the state's population ride ATVs. State officials believe building a recreational area for ATVs, off-road motorcycles, and four-wheel drive trucks could improve safety on other public land. ATVs are currently allowed on seven state trails and the Richard Bong Recreation Area in Kenosha County. The Natural Resources Board could consider such a recreational area at its monthly meeting in River Falls June 28th. No word yet on the location of the
proposed ATV trail area, which could be built on about 3,500 acres.
