The Global Invasive Species Initiative (ISI)

(Note: It is of paramount importance to realize that this entire premise is false and that the websites' addresses/URLs show The Nature Conservancy's view of these "invasive species" to be "weeds" -- i.e., http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/index.html -- which is what any nuisance specie is: noxious, a weed, harmful, etc. Using Language Deception to make people think that TNC is an authority on the following false phrases: "native species," "non-native species," "invasive species" -- is to gain control over people, either by causing them to not see the danger of losing their property rights through loss of ability to be responsible stewards over flora and fauna or by deception that opens checkbooks and bank accounts, and even estates, to donations to an organization that is perceived to be "saving" something like the "last great places." Owning or controlling many millions of acres is not "saving" them, any more than calling a plant or animal by a false description is "protecting" or "restoring" something else that is questionably at the very least, in actual need of "protecting" or "restoring." TNC's "management" would be hard pressed to prove that it farms, ranches, logs, mines, etc., any better than other private property owners. It has already been investigated by a major newspaper and a Congressional committee, has had its tax-free status yanked in one state [later returned] and operated for years in another [Ohio] and has broken assurances to elderly donors that it would "preserve" lands donated in good faith. Au contraire [on the contrary] -- more than one property has seen its land developed, resold, etc., not long after the donor's death. Other landowners have been threatened with condemnation of their land [Illinois]. The Nature Conservancy -- the "We are Nature's Realtor" group -- is not always the warm and fuzzy entity that it would have the public believe. The veneer is wearing thin. How much of the below will you believe? What is truth and what is fiction, employed solely to gain land, water, power, money, Control?)

The Global Invasive Species Initiative is The Nature Conservancy's response to abating the damage caused to native biodiversity by the human-facilitated introduction of non-native, harmful invasive species. This web site provides many resources designed to help all conservationists deal most effectively with invasive species.

Invasive plant documents & photographs

This page includes links to all our resources specific to individual invasive plant species. All of The Nature Conservancy's invasive plant species summaries can be downloaded here, including "Element Stewardship Abstracts" (or ESAs), which are particularly large, researched, and inclusive management summaries. Consider documents written prior to 1990 to be out of date---newer information is probably available. We also provide here shorter documents on invasive species.

For information on non-plant invaders, including pathogens, arthropods, vertebrates, etc., please refer to our invasives animal & pathogen page.

Didn't find what you were looking for? Try searching our listserve archives for information on the organism that interests you.

Are you an expert on a species not properly treated on our web site? (Perhaps our "ESA" for the species is dated or nonexistent?) Consider helping us all by following these instructions on how to contribute an ESA.

Unless otherwise indicated, the photographs on our site are copyrighted and property of the Wildland Invasive Species Team. If you would like to use some of our images, look at our usage policies on the page that houses our inventory of photographs.
