Statement of Schindler Family - "We have been banned from seeing Terri for 49 days."

May 17, 2004
This morning at 11 AM ET, at a press conference, Bob Schindler released the following statement:

Thank you for coming here today.

My family is so very thankful to the Clearwater Police Department for doing such a thorough and deliberate job with their investigation and for finally proving that these charges were completely baseless.

As horrifying as the last six weeks were, I am grateful to the men and women of the Police Department for undertaking their duties seriously and fairly.

We are sorry the taxpayers had to pay for an investigation that turned out to be a total waste of law enforcement resources.

We have been banned from seeing Terri for 49 days.

Why are we being kept from our own daughter?

We have not done anything wrong, the police agreed.

For the past 14 years, my family has endured a hardship that is beyond description. I'm certain that any parent can imagine the horror of such a devastating incident happening to one of your children. It is difficult and heartbreaking to say the least. But what is unbearable is when evil people will go to any length to execute my daughter for their own selfish reasons: They are and will profit financially if my daughter is executed by dehydration and starvation.

My daughter is not in a persistent vegetative state.

This is a point that many who have reported on the case in the past simply do not understand.

Terri is able to laugh and cry and to respond to us when we visit her.

She complies with requests and does her best to please those around her.

She has moods.

She has good days and bad days -- just like you or I.

She laughs at my stupid jokes.

She cries when we leave.

She lights up when she sees her mother.

She complains when she is not comfortable.

She giggles when her mother plays with her hair.

She gets frustrated, happy, tearful, tired, excited -- everything you and I do.

She just does it in the only way she can.

If she were not denied access to the simplest of rehabilitative techniques, she would be in far better shape.

We are very concerned that Terri is receiving sub-standard medical and dental care.

Her teeth are rotting and 5 have been extracted.

She is not receiving any rehabilitative therapy whatsoever.

For years we have argued in court that Terri deserves proper medical and dental care, but our pleas have been ignored.

There is no reason for this wonderful young woman to die.

With proper medical care and therapy, there is hope for Terri.

Not only do these people insist on executing my daughter, they are trying to do it as quickly as possible.

We ask that families and parents out there show their support by contacting the Florida Supreme Court and urging them not to rush through this case.

It is amazing to think that, in America, it is easier to execute someone who has committed no crime, than someone who has.

Why is my daughter still not allowed to see her mother?

She is alive, she is aware, she knows and misses her family.

With your help, the truth will be told.

Thank you. Bob Schindler

(Note: A hearing is scheduled for May 26, 2004, to hopefully "allow" Terri's REAL family to visit their daughter/sister again. How crazy is this, in a so-called "civilized" society? Many, MANY more good people need to get involved, speak up, sign petitions and polls, attend Saving Terri Rallies -- add your voices to ours, Please! Don't you think that more than fourteen years is long enough for Terri to still be at Michael's pitiless mercy?)

Bradford County Saving Terri Rally: Rally for Schiavo is a Huge Success

April 29, 2004

On April 24, 2004, as a show of support for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and her family (the Schindlers), a group of Bradford citizens and three ladies from the Jacksonville area, stood for nine hours along US-301, in front of the Bradford County Courthouse.

I hope you will allow me to share two of the letters I received that night, following the rally:

"This rally was beyond the best I have been yet. We were lined up on both sides of the street (301) and we had hundreds (not 10 or 12) people who "honked their horns" for Terri and our cause.

We passed out the fliers "My dearest Michael" as well as had a petition to Jeb Bush signed. It was full of energy ... all good natured...all ages... from tiny baby to a great grandmother.

These people were friendly and the "down home" type from right there in Starke.

They were all strangers when my sister and I arrived and by the time we left we were hugging each other.

We all loved Terri and it was obvious and apparent to all who went by.

Today was a success people... I will never ever be sorry I went.

We had support from everyone (passersby's) including teams of motorcyclist who kept circling around and waving and honking their horns (about 12 of them traveling in a pack), from pedestrians who stopped there at the Courthouse and from hundreds upon hundreds of people who honked, waved and several even stopped to talk about it and sign the petition and pick up a flyer.

We even had Eddie Boatwright, who is running for sheriff, come by in his suit and pose for photos -- with our signs. He supported our efforts and shook hands with each of us and wished us well. It was awesome.

None can say that America is for killing the disabled. It may look like it sometimes on these message boards and in the courtroom but on the streets these people were cheering us on in large numbers... It was awesome. This is not Iraq where Saddam killed his innocent people, even though some in America want to kill our innocent too... it just isn't accepted... at least not in Starke, Florida...

God bless all who were out there in the heat..(one girl even had a broken foot) and she stood on it all day...for Terri.

Love is abundant in Starke (Bradford County)!!!!!"

After I got the e-mail from Janet, I received another e-mail from Cheryl, a woman who, two years ago, left her family in Washington State ... to move to Florida just so she could help Terri and the Schindlers.

The letter reads: "I received a letter from Janet and heard that the energy in your area is incredibly positive. How absolutely wonderful! I so wish the people down here were like that! It's often very hard for me as a person who is used to coming from a place where all help one another, to end up residing in a place like the Tampa/St. Pete area where people appear to be so cold and into themselves.
All that I can say, is it has been emotionally incredibly hard on me these last few years living here and I cannot wait to go home to Seattle soon to be in a place that sounds so much like Starke. Hearing Janet tell me about the rally there really made me smile. I had almost given up on this state. It is so nice to know there is life left in this state, and there are people who still truly care about one another. This brings tears to my eyes."

I urge everyone to please get involved.

Janet, Cheryl, and everyone else who has (and are) fighting so hard to save Terri Schiavo's life, didn't just decide to get involved in the fight to save a disabled woman's life ... Their hearts and their love for everything that makes our country great: "Life, Liberty, and Justice For all" demanded no less of them (US).

God Bless the United States of America. And each of you who took a moment to care.
